The Origin Story
Every place has a soul. Listen to the whispers of the past and the rhythm of the present.
“Birthplace of King Naresuan the Great.”
Chan Royal Palace was the seat of the Ayutthaya viceroyalty in Phitsanulok and the birthplace of King Naresuan the Great (r. 1590-1605), one of Thailand's most celebrated monarchs. The palace grounds — set along the Nan River — now feature a modern historical center with interactive exhibits, archaeological ruins of the original palace foundations, and a revered shrine to King Naresuan where locals come to pray for strength and courage. The site connects Phitsanulok's identity as a city of warriors and kings.
