The Origin Story
Every place has a soul. Listen to the whispers of the past and the rhythm of the present.
“The most beautiful Buddha in Thailand.”
Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, known locally as Wat Yai (The Grand Temple), has been the spiritual anchor of Phitsanulok for over 600 years. Built during the Sukhothai period, it houses the Phra Buddha Chinnarat — a bronze Buddha image of extraordinary beauty, with its flame-like halo and serene expression that has captivated visitors for centuries. The temple's ornate mother-of-pearl doors, riverside location along the Nan River, and sacred atmosphere make it one of Thailand's most important pilgrimage sites. Kings and commoners alike have come here to pay respect, and replicas of the Chinnarat can be found in temples across the country.
The spiritual heart of Phitsanulok, home to the legendary Phra Buddha Chinnarat — widely considered the most beautiful Buddha image in Thailand.
